Shauna Mayben Jeweller

I believe jewellery is more than just adornment. It’s about connection, relationships, moments, and memories.

I desire to create collections that combine personal and fine jewellery with fashion-forward statement pieces, creating jewellery that will be valued throughout the owner’s lifetime. The unique items are made with rare and beautiful Tasmanian and international stones, hand-cut on our island by my mother Kim Swanson, a gem cutter.

A third-generation jeweller with a background in design and fine arts, I have practised for more than 18 years. I draw inspiration from Tasmania’s rich history and relationship with the sea and land, and use materials like wild abalone shells that I carefully craft and polish to present as precious objects, like gemstones of the sea.

I completed my Masters with Distinction in Fine Art and Design at the University of South Australia in 2006, and an associateship at JamFactory Contemporary Craft and Design. I am enthusiastic about sharing my knowledge, and in 2017 opened my studio to teach the craft of silversmithing.

While I work as a commercial jeweller in my home city of Hobart, I have also worked for several years as a lecture in the jewellery department at TAFE. I believe in creating a community with other jewellery enthusiasts.
